About these jobs
3 of 6 state pay — see salary data across the whole board. Listings copied from another board say so, and are not verified by us.
TOEFL iBT preparation in Korea is aimed mostly at students heading to universities in the United States, which makes the student body a mix of adults and school-age learners on an ambitious track. Hiring is at test-preparation academies and university language centres, and it has a strong seasonal shape: the intensive vacation programs in winter and summer are when hours multiply and short-term contracts appear.
The work is format-driven — integrated tasks, timed writing, recorded speaking — and employers ask about exactly that rather than general teaching. Because the test is computer-delivered and heavily templated, much of the value you add is in feedback on recorded and written work, which happens outside class time. Related: SAT, ACT and AP, which shares the US-bound student base, and IELTS.
