Phonics teaching jobs in Korea

Phonics and early-literacy teaching is the entry point of the largest part of the Korean academy market: kindergartens and elementary hagwons teaching children to decode and read. Most roles pair a morning kindergarten block with afternoon elementary classes, which makes the day long but daytime, and puts the start time earlier than almost anything else on the board.

The work asks for energy, classroom management and consistency with a scheme of work the academy has already chosen — there is usually a set curriculum and a pace to hold rather than lessons to design. Class sizes, whether you teach alongside a Korean co-teacher, and how much of the day is contact time are the questions that decide what the job is actually like.
