How many of those hours are teaching?
77 of the 505 adverts state the teaching hours: the median is 25 a week, and half fall between 22 and 30. Where an advert states both (50), the median difference is 15 hours a week at the school that are not teaching.
Teaching hours are not the working week. Two adverts paying the same salary can be a long way apart in what they ask of you, and pay per teaching hour can only be worked out where both are stated (salaries).
What should I ask the school?
What time the working day starts and finishes, which days, how many of those hours are classes, and whether the day is split with an unpaid gap in the middle. Every listing on LucyESL marks the hours its advert leaves out, and the disclosure figures count how many adverts leave out each one.
How does LucyESL read hours?
From the advert itself: a weekly figure, or its working days together with one daily window, so Monday to Friday, 9 to 6 is 45. A daily window with no days is not added up (42 full-time adverts give only that), and a full-time copied advert that gives fewer than 12 teaching hours is taken to mean a day and left out. Full-time here means an employment contract paid by the month; part-time, hourly and contract adverts are left out.
